i'll get under your skin

She knew she hadn't been here long but already the rolling Dunes felt like home. She spent her days racing the wind and cherishing the warm sun on her back when others would probably be pushing through knee deep snow right about now. Winter was never her favorite holiday but here, she could embrace the cool while still remaining agile and ready for whatever the world threw at her next. The black clouds that danced overhead only made her skin tingle with excitement and she reared up on a hilly pile of sand, nimble front legs slashing out at the sky as if in retaliation before tossing her head with a mighty cry of defiance. "Show me what you're made of!" She seemed to say. A snort bellowed from her flared nostrils as she came back down, her tail swishing at her flanks before hse coiled her muscles and launched forward. The thunder that rumbled overhead seemed to fall in tune with her hooves and she imagined it was coming from her very own feet, like a goddess unto herself, the lightening like flashes from her eyes, daring the world to crumble.

When a flash of white blazed down not far from her, the mare skidded to a stop with a harsh whinny, throwing her body to the side before taking off in a different direction. Now the storm was defying her, no longer accepting her presence but reacting to it. Her brows furrowed in determination but her course was true. She would fight the storm and win. There was no other way. When the first droplets of rain hit her shiny fur, she threw herself into the air, twisting her body and kicking out with both back legs to the side in protest. A squeal left her lips as she dug in her little hooves, asking for more speed as if she could outrun the rain itself. That was when she saw the darker figure standing under some palm trees. She didn't recognize the figure at first but when she caught wind of his scent, she knew it from the cologne that graced the borders of this beautiful place. In the depth of the storm, his scent was faint but heavy enough for her to put the two together.

Snorting at his languid stance, she skidded to another stop out on the dunes, her gaze meeting his for a moment before she threw herself up on her back legs again, letting out another cry as the lightening threw down another flash behind her. She felt the electricity dance through the sand beneath her feet, making it feel gritty and harder. Kicking out her front legs, she came back down with another rumbling snort and shook out her soaked mane, ears pricked toward him as she waited to see how he would respond. Would he dare the storm with her? As if in answer, the storm answered instead, the darkness fading back to light slowly as the rain lessened then stopped. She glared upward for a moment, as if damning the sky for letting her down. But then her gaze swept back to the stallion as he ventured out to stand guard at the water now. Silently, she studied him.
