Use caution when the wolf comes knocking;

Rougaru knew Monster was different from the first moment he laid eyes upon her. Where others adored the swell of their bellies as pregnancy set in, she hated it. A part of him felt at least a bit guilty that she must endure the swelling body and aching bones alone, he could not help but find himself imagining of the foal that she carried. It would not be long now.

When her irritated stomping gave way to painful grunts, Rougaru finds his gaze lifting from the rich grasses upon which he was grazing. Dark ears rotate backwards in confusion as he takes a step towards her, worry causing his brow to furrow in distress. He takes a step towards her, but she does not seem to notice, her mind and thoughts are elsewhere. Only when she turns away from the herd in search of thicker cover does the familiar aching worry and excitement set in. It was time. What thoughts of filling his stomach had been given to grazing disappears as protectively he starts towards her and then stops himself, all too familiar with how mother's preferred the privacy of solitude during moments like this. It was not like he could offer her a hand to hold or any words of reassurance. Not that Monster would appreciate them, she was more likely to cuss him out for all he was worth anyway. The thought made him smirk and for a time he allowed himself to play the scenario out in his mind, finding amusement in sharpness of her tongue. At least during labor she couldn't bite him. That made him chuckle.

The murmuring voice of his viper queen breaks through the thoughts and the anticipation is too much for him to bare any longer. "Monster..." he calls, his voice gentle and a bit unsure. He knew she would want her privacy but he could not help himself. He just had to know. Slowly he pushed way through the dense undergrowth, letting his emerald eyes adjust to the what shadowed sunlight the canopy above let in. There. Her patchwork sides dappled by the sunlight, Monster stood looking exhausted and as though she preferred nothing more than to curl onto the fern covered floor and rest for days. However, at her side, the boisterous red foal bumped and prodded his dam's flanks, stomping his small hooves and wagging his small tail excitedly. Curiously he comes closer now, his bright eyes caught between the two. Like his mother's flaming spirit, the little boy was bright crimson like the wildfires that burned the plains during the dry season. He was a sight to behold. "You did beautifully my love." he murmured affectionately, rushing to her now, pressing his whiskered muzzle against her own. Dark lashes blink slowly as he gazed down at his new son, pride gleaming in his eyes as he trails his lips along her neck and down to inhale the colt's milky sweet new scent. "Have you picked out a name for him yet?" he asks, curious as to whether the words he had overheard earlier might give him a name.
