He knew he couldn't keep them all to himself forever. Though the Vanner would love nothing more than to protect his family and herd for all their lives, he knew his children would eventually want more out of life. They craved adventure. He knew that was what Akello was looking for when he went to Luthien and Carbon when he kept going to the Crossing. It wouldn't be long before Twinge, Enoch, and the newer generations craved the same. He couldn't keep them here, and he wouldn't. He wanted more for his children. He wanted them to know independence and freedom. He wanted them to know greatness and love. He wanted them to have everything out of life, everything he didn't have at their age.

When he saw his daughter, Twinge, approaching, something told the tobiano stallion that she had something important to say. There was a purpose to the way she walked toward him. She looked so meek, tentative, and he hated that. His eyes were warm and welcoming as she approached, his ears forward as he gave a loving nicker and extended his muzzle to her own in greeting. When she buried her muzzle in his mane, he chuckled breathily and turned his own head to nuzzle at her in return. As she started to speak, he smiled and met her gaze, raising a brow expectantly. "Yes, sweetheart?"

She nibbled at his whiskers and he indulged her in this, figuring it was helping with her own anxiety. Finally, she said that she wanted to see other islands and his smile faltered, if only a little. He took a deep breath before meeting her gaze again, but when he did, his gaze was proud, tinged with a little sadness. "I understand, darling. I will be sad to see you go, but I know you're destined for great things. You have my support and if you need anything, just let me know. This will always be your home." He assured her, reaching out to nuzzle at her neck affectionately.
