Tyr had so many things on his mind. So many things he wanted to say. But every word that crossed his mind, and that he tried to place just right, came to a halt the moment he heard the terrified scream. His heart gave an uncomfortable thump in his chest and he hurried the rest of the way. Only when he finally came to the scene no one ever wished to face, did the giant stallion freeze in his tracks. At first it was Kvothe’s face he stared at. The expression upon her red features enough to haunt him for quite some time. But it was only after he followed her line of sight, looking upon the golden lifeless form on the ground, that his entire world came to a grinding halt.

Somehow, the image of his son was drawing closer, and it took him a moment to realize he was walking closer. Tyr had not given the conscious effort to walk over to his son, but it was inevitable, and slowly he reached his nose down to draw it along Aslan’s neck before resting it at his muzzle. When he found no breath or stir of life, there was no questioning the fate of his son. It was entirely too soon. The young colt had so much life ahead of him. How could it have possible come and gone so quickly?

“K-Kvothe….” Tyr started, her name choking in his throat as he raised his head to look over her. When he had left the Lagoon, he had never imagined this to happen. It was like a nightmare in slow motion and he wanted nothing more than to wake up. “I’m sorry…. he is….. he’s gone.” All the words Tyr had practiced in his head on the way here had never been anything close to this.

Stepping away from the lifeless body of his son, Tyr reached over towards Kvothe. Although his heart was filled with pain, he knew it would be nothing like her’s. She had created him, raised him, and had actually known him where as Tyr had failed the fatherly role. Still, it left a void he had never experienced before. He could only imagine how Kvothe must feel. He would hold her as she grieved, if she allowed, and hoped this would not send her away.
