I am amazed and disheartened at the stupidity of politicians in this era when police officers are at the epicenter of civic unrest. The foolish “solution” of defunding police departments goes against logic. If the quality of police officers is the problem, how does reducing funding accomplish anything but further lower the quality? In industry, no corporate c.e.o. would cut the budget of a problem department, for that would further increase the problem. No, he/she would initiate an evaluation as to the cause of the problem and based on that evaluation, initiate change even if an increased budget is necessary. Likewise, good politicians would evaluate how present police funding is spent and make changes based on that evaluation. Unfortunately, not in Maryland.
