Meadow

The disturbances around him were fleeting and un-bothersome in his mind. Espen could care less if a wolf came up and started chewing his ear off, if only it would make this misery end faster. But despite his lack of attention, the sound of footfall only grew closer. He kept his eyes closed, hoping if he looked close enough to death, then the stranger would go away. They clearly did not think the same way as he did, and soon he felt the soft touch of their lips across his crest and into his tangled wet mane. Come they seemed to demand. Come..


When the sharp pinch of teeth didn’t pair with the words, Espen opened his blue eyes to look up at the stranger. She was so brightly colored, much like the sun, that he thought his mind was surely making up such things. He couldn’t help but stare dumbfounded as he tried to decide if she was real, or if he had finally perished and she was here to welcome him into the after life. Only when he noticed her darker colored self standing nearby that realization dawned on him. This was real, he wasn’t dead.


Rolling himself upright and away from her touch, the stallion let out a deep grunt. The effort nearly too much, and his desire to just lay down ever stronger. But for some reason, the mare was beckoning him and he was curious as to why. Probably for some twisted reason. That was always the culprit in the end. But, he still put in the effort and rose the rest of the way onto his hooves before shaking his body to rid the clinging sand to his wet flesh. Afterwards, when his eyes found the beautiful stranger again, he jerked his chin for her to lead on. He didn’t see the need to bother asking where they were going. Espen would figure it out soon enough when they got there.
