Seri had been in such a haste to disappear. She wanted to crawl into a hole and cease to exist. Instead, she did very much exist and the stallion she had practically ran into, made her well aware of that. As his teeth reach for her, she finds herself skittering sideways narrowly avoiding the clack of his teeth. Her eyes practically roll back into her skull as she flings her head up in the air in fear. Seri has never been without her mother. It would seem in this moment that the hollow feeling she thought she was feeling as not nearly as empty as she felt right now.
In a burst of tears, she hangs her head in shame. She avoids his gaze as he scolds her for nearly running into him. His voice softens a little and she peeks at him through long lashes. The steel color of his coat reminds her of her mother and she sniffles unapologetically at him. "I am...Seri." She manages to choke out. "I didn't mean to almost run into you. But I am alone." She sniffles. Pull it together, she silently wills herself. Seri was like a little bird that had fallen out of the nest. She looks at him with her meek expression, obvious youth washing over her face. Seri wanted a normal life. Or whatever passed for normal on the Islands. She wanted to be young again, well younger than she was, and to be tucked close to her mothers side, relishing in her warmth and sent.
But Seri was practically an adult now, entering her first season. She knew she needed to accept that though her entrance into the world hadn't been as warm and inviting as she expected, it was the life she had to live. She looks at Siguršr thoughtfully. "Are you from the Islands? I was born in the Savanna." Perhaps this was her chance to start over.
