The mare had been spit up by the sea onto probably the harshest island possible. Raegen sputtered and coughed as she stumbled up onto the sandy beach, unable to help her squinting eyes as she looked out to the barren land.
Just wonderful the mare thought, irritated this had been the place fate had brought her. It couldn’t have been some lush place full of vegetation and crystalline pools. No, it was just sand, sun and more sand.
You probably deserved this her thoughts continued, and the mare rolled her eyes, before stumbling her way further inland. Though she could scent others, she didn’t call out to them. Raegen didn’t want their attention probably anymore than they wanted a stranger here. But the quiver in her legs was proof enough that she couldn’t be swimming back out to sea anytime soon. She just needed to find some shade, and maybe even something to drink to wash away the salt in her mouth. It seemed the stuff had gotten everywhere, even the most uncomfortable places, and she hated it almost as much as she hated the scenery.
After what felt like endless hours of wandering, Raegen finally just stopped. She had seen nothing but endless waves of sand rolling up and down. Not a single horse track or glimpse of shade. Though scents still lingered, she was sure that the wind that would breath the heat from her skin every now and again was responsible for the lack of proof that there was living creatures here.
“Help!” Raegen finally called out, her voice seeming loud and carrying in the overwise deafening silence. The mare scaled a dune so that she could stand on top, her ears perking as she called out again, even louder this time, hoping one of the residence would find her despite her previous thoughts. “HELP!”
