Esther is interested to hear that the other mare grew up without a herd. Esther grew up much the same way, but her mother didn’t stick to one place. Instead, they roamed - Esther thinks they had seen every inch of their homeland, before they headed to the islands. Her mother died a few years back, but Esther had continued on. The pretty blue roan mare listens, head tilted to one side. “I never had it either,” she offers. “But I don’t think I really want it. I don’t ever want to be responsible for anyone but myself.” Esther hasn’t ever had the desire for a herd or a daily, or for anything except to be in charge of herself and find adventure.
When the mare asks her to follow, Esther doesn’t hesitate; she’s hardly an intimidating thing, and they’re alone enough that Esther doesn’t have a fear she’s up to something nefarious. The last thing she needs is to be led back to some aggressive stallion and be dragged to someones territory to waste away until she can escape. They make their way down the stream until it widens, the banks splitting further and further apart as it turns to a river. Presti lowers herself down, water washing over her and knocking the mud off. Esther follows her down, easily dropping to her knees. The cream colored mare goes under the water, rolling against the current as she’s submerged. “Oh -” Esther exclaims, starting to stand up. Does she need to chase Presti down the river? Can she even help? It doesn’t wind up mattering, because a few moments later a light head pops up and Esther sighs in relief. “I don’t think I need that much of a dip,” Esther disagrees with a laugh. She’s happy to stay stable and with her head above water. With a soft grunt, she stands, and grins down at the mare. “Where are you going next? I’ve always wanted to explore the ruins. Every time I go, I swear there’s something different to see.”
