legends never die

Eden’s voice cracks. Bane’s gaze remains steady. It didn’t shift, it didn’t change. There is no change in the way that Bane studies her daughter, watching her devolve. Melt down. There were shades of her own mother here, in the way that her emotions bubbled to the surface. No control over those emotions. None… none at all. Bane’s own control is that of her father. Still waters run deep.

Before the end, Eden was shouting. Bane’s ears pinned clear to her skull, taking a few, long steps forward. Her eyes narrowed. “Lower your voice, child.” She snaps. She cannot help but snap-- the child brought an argument like this to her doorstep. Eden brought the argument to Bane’s home, when she could have just stayed away. Sure, if Eden wanted to confront her, so be it. But she wouldn’t be shouted at in her own home.

“You having nowhere to go is not of my concern.” The words are icy. “You will not disrespect me here.” Bane’s strides were long, gaze dark. She was beginning to lose control over her own emotions, but all she felt was… what was this? “You have no right to track me down, you have no right to come here just to shout at me.” Bane’s eyes flashed. Everything about her in these moments is severe.

Now she recalls why she sent the girl away in the first place. There was not a maternal bone in Bane’s body.
