The little dark gold mare made him smile, and though her meek behavior made Zevulun want to act smaller, less threatening, he was enjoying her company. He was grateful when she called for the leads - Valka or Bacardi, she�d said - and even more so when she suggested the covering of the trees. Zevulun laughed as he shivered and nodded enthusiastically. �Yes, getting out of the cold would be much appreciated.�

Zevulun�s pale ears flicked as she introduced herself, then felt a bit of heat warm his cheeks with embarrassment. �No apology needed, Vera.� He said her name kindly. �I should be apologizing to you. I�m the stranger who washed up on your shore and didn�t properly introduce myself.� He gave her a sheepish grin, then started up the shoreline and toward the trees. He couldn�t wait to huddle in the pine where the wind broke and couldn�t rake so easily, so openly across his still-wet body. It was nice to be cold like this again, but he wouldn�t mind getting a break from it.

�I�m Zevulun. My family used to rule the Bay years ago.� He said it casually, then wondered if he should have kept that to himself. He didn�t want anyone here thinking he was coming to expose their weak spots or gain their trust only to come after their home later on. Zevulun truly was trying to set up his new life in the Prairie.

Besides, the Bay belonged to Mariael. He couldn�t live here without her.

He glanced back curiously at Vera. �Have you lived here long with Valka and Bacardi?� He repeated the names she�d given him, more for himself to stick them in his memory. If he didn�t wind up meeting either of them today, he�d be sure to pass along a note to see if an alliance could be made and if he and his blood could visit the Bay on occasion.
