The funeral service will be held on Thursday 23rd December at 10:30hrs in
Heaton Moor United Church, Stanley Road, Heaton Moor, SK4 4HL

Sgt Niven was a Chindit who fought in Burma as part of the
77th Brigade commanded by Brig “Mad Mike” Calvert
Ian was one of the Manchester City's club’s honorary presidents and, a lifelong supporter.
Our Deepest Sympathy and sincere condolences go out to his son Ian, family and friends.

Sgt Ian Niven MBE was a Chindit in the 1st Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers. He trained in India fought in Burma.
He was a fusilier signaller attached to Major Monteith’s company and a member of 20 Column. He flew into ‘Broadway’ by Dakota on 6th March 1944. He fought at both ‘White City’ and Mogaung. After the war Ian worked at Richard Johnson and Nephew wire works in Bradford. Ian is a Honourary President of Manchester City Football Club.
A lifelong supporter of the club and part of a six generation City-supporting family. He joined the board in 1971 and remained until 1995. During that time he oversaw the development of Maine Road and identified the need for City to own their training ground and thus created the first academy in the country. Ian was awarded an MBE for his services to the community, particularly his work in Moss Side.
