The shadow came from a culture of strong men. They were brassy creatures, with bold personalities and tough exteriors, bruisers and brawlers. Men who knew better than to show weakness, sure. Many of the men that had raised him, and that had grown up at his sides, knew that kindness and weakness weren’t the same thing. Not all, but many. Viđarr was grateful to have been brought up in such a way. Between the shadow and the smaller woman, a tender gesture. It’s brief, and not without a soft smile from the tall man. Carefully, he closes the distance to something a bit more intimate, a bit more tender. Though his voice was quiet, it carried well enough to fill this space. “Ingen fara pĺ taket,” the words come forth in his mother tongue before he can stop them. “Ah, to say, things have been quiet,” Viđarr speaks with a soft glimmer in his eye. Still, the shadow’s primary concern isn’t for himself. “How are you?” Genuine concern played through his features. Winter could be tough, and if she was out here on her own, Viđarr wouldn’t be able to prevent himself from worrying. There was also the question of their tryst from the previous autumn… maybe it was too soon to tell. Maybe mares had their ways of knowing things, in all their mysterious ways. Regardless, Viđarr still felt a responsibility for the blue mare. “And how is Fortis?” The boy that he’d helped look for on the first evening they’d met… had the boy stuck close? Was he waiting around a corner to spring out at them now? Had he struck out on his own, a man? Still, Viđarr’s tone held a fondness. click for full image w/credits |
translation notes:
Ingen fara pĺ taket - literally means "no danger on the roof," but in context means more 'there's nothing to worry about.' Especially with how Viđarr uses it, it means more that he's still vigilant but there's no danger present/nothing bad happening right now <3
