Also, after his return he was Commodore of the USNA yacht club, leading its competitors in a Bermuda race during which the weather cost the loss of some of the other boats. His command guidance kept all USNA boats safe.

Besides which, he was a much appreciated companion in PoW camp, and he had a great sense of humor.
