Good essay but saying "Russia is in a desperate war with Ukraine" doesn't tell the story. Russia is suffering punishment from the west for its decision to invade and annex Ukraine. That's a very big deal relating to Russia's economic health.
Their economic situation is of their own doing both because of sanctions and their bellicose behavior with their neighbors.
I'm not ready to say Russia has it's foot on Western Europe; they could mitigate it if they invested in more independent energy.
I'm not sure why you went off on the "You and playful Americans are distracted and we need a savior." We're doing pretty well economically, IMHO. We shouldn't get too concerned about routine visits of bulls and bears. Our resources and workforce are large and diversified; we can handle most anything but war, extended pestilence, or the west coast falling into the Pacific--at least for the time being. Replies:
