another night alone, a temporary dream

Well, there's nowhere left to go
Stay with me, stay with me

Sun glinted off of a painted champagne stallion as he made his into the Meadow, feathered legs moving at a determined yet unrushed pace. Having been on the islands for the turn of a few seasons, he had yet to build his herd substantially, and so he turned to the Crossing Isle to see if there were any needing a home. He mentally kicked himself, wishing he had found the time to do this earlier in the year; fall was right around the corner. He hoped he could get home- with a companion more specifically- before the ocean began to chill and bite. His thick coat and muscled body could withstand the cooler waters, but he didn’t know who he would find while he was here. For some reason the quiet Forest he had found and sequentially claimed bustled with activity almost as soon as he did, as if giving the land one heartbeat drew in more. It kept him busy, although almost none had decided to stay. A warm smile came upon his face when he thought of the ones who did- pregnant Talya and her yearling colt. Despite that they were not his own, he was glad there would be foals running around. There was something about their untainted purity that brought a joy with them that couldn’t be found any other way.

It was with these fond thoughts that he came upon a mare and her own foal, or so he assumed. She seemed as if she was lost in thought, not fully functional or aware of the world around her. His ears went sideways as he debated on what to do. He was here to look for mares, but would it be proper to walk up to one who seemed so enveloped in despair? Perhaps company would help… but then, perhaps it would only add to the weight of her feelings. He paused in his movement, within sight but far enough away that there was no reason to interact just yet. Crystal gold eyes looked at the pair. Pointing his ears toward her, he shows his intentions, and moves forward once more. If anything, he can check and see if she and her child are alright, or if they need any help. Surely a kind stranger would incur better feelings than those in which it looked as if she were lost. Then again… ‘No,’ he told himself firmly. He would not talk himself out of approaching her. Stopping far enough away so that his large figure did not suffocate her sense of comfort, he whickered huskily in greeting. “Are you well?” was all he said, because really, she didn’t look it.
