Yes, Joe would always challenge the Walter Mittys who turned up at various parades dressed up like a Christmas Tree ....quite rightly so! He was also strongly opposed to ' bling ', such as Commemorative Medals purchased off the internet, particularly when they were worn grouped together with genuine MOD / Sovereigns medals on the left breast. I'm sure you can recall many who have been publicly outed / exposed over the years. Their is a very active Facebook Group of ex servicemen who ' hunt ' down the Walters of this world and expose them to public ridicule at every opportunity. Look them up on Google...I think they are called The Walter Hunters or something similar.
When it comes to personalised registration plates I think it's all very much a matter of personal choice as to wether you like them or not, but the SAS one is certainly one for the fantasist I think.
