Good Evening Andrew
I will email you tomorrow. I can confirm that his Regimental Number with the Lancashire Fusiliers was Pvt 22. With the Royal Engineers he was Sgt 198114. He was Gazetted 17.01.1919. issue 31132 page 980 refers and awarded the Meritorious Service Medal whilst serving with the 39th Divisional Signals Company Royal Engineers.
* Meritorious Service Medal (Army) Instituted on 19th December 1845 the Meritorious Service Medal was awarded to the British Army and of Queen Alexandra's Royal Naval Nursing Service, to recognise meritious service by Warrant Officers and senior NCOs (Sergeant or above). To qualify for the medal it would require 21 years’ service (18 if disabled), and had earned the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.

When serving with the Lancashire Fusiliers in the 2nd battalion as Pvt 22 in France and Flanders, he was listed as suffering from Gas Poisoning on the Casualty List issued by the War Office on 15th May, 1915. He was entitled to wear a wound stripe.

Between 1881 and 1899 the 2nd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers were stationed in India, Egypt and were involved in the 2nd Sudan War and the Battle of Omdurman.
Between 1899 and 1902 they were involved in the Boer War and were in South Africa at Spion Cop and Ladysmith.
This would appear to fit in with your known time scale for his Service.
I will check with the National Archives tomorrow. He will be recorded.
More tomorrow by email when I will forward a copy of his Medal Card held by ancestry.com and a copy of his Regimental Entry confirming his medal entitlements. Click on the link below for his entry on the National Archives Medal Rolls.
