Home is where your teeth sink in

I’ll keep the door open
in case you come home

Their scuffle does not last long. It becomes rapidly clear that Blue is in no mood to play, a fact that would have been obvious to Fell if he had stopped to think about it for more than half a second. He releases her when he feels the twist of her body and the press of her hindquarters against his shoulder. Fell is not that much of a fool, and he backs off at the promise of a proper kicking from his Blue.

The two adults separate and Fell sets his gaze on Akulu. She is still agitated, snapping her heavy black tail and speaking to her mother in a tone that sounds nearly scolding to Fell. His ears swivel from one to the other as they discuss, and he pieces together that Akulu might not recognize him.

When Blue looks to him with pleading eyes, Fell drops his head guiltily, ears splayed to either side like a scolded pup. The pair were far more stressed than he had realized, though of course he would not have noticed anything with the selfish and chaotic way he had come at them. He feels increasingly guilty as he realizes the weight of what could have happened to them to make them leave unwillingly, and he gets the sense from Akulu’s behavior that perhaps danger is even still present. His head lifts, ears cupping forward, and he casts about them once to make sure nothing is following so closely as to be visible to him from the beach.

He wants to ask her what happened and who took them, and in his agitated curiosity he begins to bristle. He extends his muzzle to Blue, a far more peaceful gesture than his initial greeting, before jerking his head back toward the trees. He wants to check Blue for injuries (including any he may have caused just now by being an ass) but it is more important to get them to safety first.

Behind him, along the beach, a dark shape streaks toward them. Fell flinches at the sound of hooves and spins around, ears pinned and muscles tense to take on whatever enemy has found them while he was wasting time trying to play, but the shape makes itself known as a non-threat when it cries out in anguished relief. It’s Asana, barreling down the beach as though she intends to tackle her twin into the sand. She doesn’t, sliding instead to a clumsy halt, suddenly nervous that Akulu might disappear again if she touches her.
