Mmmm.
I don't recall any Nissan Huts at the JWS. From poor memory the accommodation was wooden single storey raised bungalow type blocks with a verandah? At the end of the building was a room/area where the local ' laundry boys ' lived and worked from? When you came back to camp from a jungle exercise you simply dumped your rotting clothing with them...a couple of hours later it was returned cleaned, starched and stiff as a board LOL.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading through your memories of the JWS. It certainly jogged my memory and sent a couple of shivers down my spine too! Ha Ha.
One little story for you.
As you say working your way through the jungle can be a difficult and exasperating experience. On one patrol I recall Mike Phillips (C. Company) being on section point duty and literally hacking a path through almost� impenetrable virgin jungle. All was well until a blood curdling scream echoed from the jungle canopy....WTF?.... Mike had hacked through a thick vine with his ' panga ' but unfortunately had also put the blade through his knee cap! Long story short.....exercise patrol was halted and a helievac was hastily arranged to get Mike to hospital as quickly as possible....he had made a really good job of cutting his knee in half!!
Sadly for the rest of the patrol we had to spend a couple of hours enlarging a clearing for the helievac...... dammed hard work!

PS....have fond memories of the Sky Bar atop the hotel...but that's a whole different story and perhaps not for this page! LOL�
PPS.....the alley way just to the right of the main entrance was known as gobblers gulch. 😆...err...not really sure why I know that..😄
