The other stallion seems surprised by his question, or at least a little embarrassed, and suddenly Perseus feels doubtful about his approach. However he knows a part of him would find his mind drifting back to this moment in the future. Maybe it was surviving the world's attempt at drowning him that made him so bold and ready to face the world. Or maybe, and this was more likely, he was bitter. After all, who had cared for him? His mother had thrown him away, barely able to stomach looking at him. And it burned. And she'd returned; not for him. Not to wrap him up in warmth and say she was sorry. She warned his family, his new family, about what he was. A monster.
And maybe he was. But not in the way she expected.
Perseus knew that if he did not reach out to someone in distress he would regret it. Though he did feel bad about potentially offending him. His ears flicked out to the sides and he offered a smile. "I'm...Perseus." He'd given himself that name when he'd branched out on his own, but the days had been lonely. And the days that weren't he didn't do much introducing. It was the first time he'd said it out loud. He took a deep breath, his chest swelling with pride. It was something that was his. Entirely his. Just like he was the seas'.
"And yourself?" He asks after a brief pause, still slightly enamored with the sound of his own name. |
