turn men into monsters

Knowing he couldn’t go anywhere left Vadim to his thoughts, and to admire the scenery around him. He wondered if there were wolves in this part of Tinuvel, and if they were as ferocious as the ones he had been told about in the Lagoon? Were they of the same pack, brave enough to cross the water as the horses of the Islands did? It was almost disturbing to think about, that they couldn’t even escape the beasts by fleeing into the water. But, even in his current state, Vadim did not think them a threat. He was not down, he was not bleeding enough to be mistaken for dying, and his hind hooves still worked just fine. Vadim was enough of a threat to keep away the wolves, but what about the stallion of this place?

Movement in the corner of his eye startled the stallion, making him jump and a flash of pain shoot through his shoulder again. A rattled snort left his nares, his head turning and the wind laying his thick forelock over one side of his face as he peered off towards the shadows where he had thought to have seen it. Was he imagining things? There, as he squinted his green eyes, Vadim was able to see it. The white markings on an otherwise black face, paired with curious eyes. Not a wolf, not a stallion; the delicate, feminine face of a curious young mare.

Both embarrassed with himself and flustered that she had been the one to startle him so easily, Vadim straightened his posture to make himself seem even bigger than he already was. How long had she been watching him though? Had she heard him squeal in pain like a wimp? “No sense of hiding now, shadow.” he called out. “Might as well get a closer look.” Vadim beckoned with an amused smirk.
