Re(3): Quiet September

Yes, it is quite disturbing. We had many birds of many species at feeders in August, now just the odd Downy, Chickadee, nuthatch. We did have a Junco but it didn't come to all the feed on the ground. I hear Barred Owl every night, have not seen one this year! White pines are totally laden with cones. I'm not sure how unusual that is nor whether any connection with paucity of birds. We do have a dozen Mallards and even a Blue-winged Teal (my first here) loitering on our lake, never seen that before. Fall colours seem retarded by a week, so maybe wet summer produced abundant food for birds-we hope
