ZARIA

Zaria would be lying if she said that she hoped to simply enjoy the scenery in quiet solitude. In fact, she hoped that there might be a creature brave enough to approach her in the dying hours of sunlight. However, the voice that does rise above the distant chattering of voices, is not one she expected to ever hear again.

Were she not so caught up in watching a particularly animated pair of lovers caught in some type of quarrel, she might have caught wind of his approach. The shuffle of hooves maybe or a snapping twig. If the wind had only changed direction just slightly enough, perhaps she would have recognized the thick musk of lagoon ingrained into his very essence. But as luck would have it (on his behalf anyway), the russet woman is ignorant of his approach until the sound of his sarcasm surrounds her. HIM!

Chocolate-tipped ears tilt backward as the slender mare arches her neck to fix the burly beast in her silver-blue gaze. Pale brows narrow as she remains silent for a moment, studying the familiar stranger. Time has aged him as it has herself. Where once boyish features might have caused her inexperienced heart to swoon, now outlines his physic in masculine adulthood. The uneven gangliness of youth has given way to the solid confirmation of a stallion in his prime. And from the cocky expression on his lips, he knew it well.

She had not expected to ever see him again. He was the reason why mother and father were so determined that she remained close to the Arch unless accompanied by her brothers. He had been her chance for unexplored lands and new worlds, but he had failed. Yet here he stood with a proud smile on his lips and green eye glittering as though he had accomplished something.

A coy smile slides easily across her pink labrums as the copper woman flicks the ends of her chocolate tail towards him in banter.”I suppose you could say that…” she begins, pausing a moment to pointedly size him up. ”I guess he did not see much of a threat after you took that ONE beating in the Arch.” she teased her silver-blue eyes glittering as an amused giggle resonated within her. Lithe limbs move as she turns to face him, the knowing smile still firmly planted on her lips. ”I am Zaria by the way. Not that you bothered to ask for it last time. What’s yours?” At the very least she would finally have a name to go with that face from her dreams.
