The seasons changed, but Atlantis always seemed to stand still in time. It was the same as it had been when he was a colt; warm, full of vegetation and life. The ease that every creature thrived almost seemed like a sin. It wasn’t the first time Finley had contemplated leaving. He had only ended up here out of spite. To show the big draft mare what it was like when an unwelcome visitor traipsed around their territory. Yet somehow, she hadn’t run him off, and he hadn’t decided to leave. Would she try to stop him when he did? Finley smirked, a few green stems poking out of his dark brown lips as he did. The stallion almost wished she would try.
The chocolate-colored stallion stood along the edge of the vegetation; his eyes cast out across the expanse of sand to the edges of the lapping water. Today was a peaceful day. The wind was a soft breeze, the sky clear without any sign of weather upon the horizon. It was only the soul-shattering cry that startled the stallion, breaking that quiet peace.
At first, Finley thought about just ignoring it. Whatever ailment that Siren now faced, as it was clearly her voice, did not concern him. Yet, as a little time went by, she cried out again. This time, although he acted like it, Finley wasn’t totally heartless and felt he should at least investigate. The rock in the pit of his stomach already gave him an idea as to what had happened; what he had warned her about on the shores of the Ruins if she continued down the path she had clearly chosen.
When he finally found the draft mare, her condition made it clear that his suspicions were right. As much as he wanted to, he didn’t state that fact as his dark blue eyes settled on her broken expression. She deserved this for what she had done, but he swallowed down those words, and decided to at least keep guard while she recovered. Siren had made enough enemies; this would be a perfect opportunity for them to finish what she had started.
