I dont think ANY news outlet will get details the police will not volunteer if all they do is interview the cops.
The REST of the STORY is always talking to associates, neighbors, people willing to speak OFF CAMERA, NOT for attribution.
But the 4 local stations dont' bother really investigating because NONE of the four actually look into crimes other than the police comments. So no one of them will seriously look into stories... because if they start THAT, they'll have to hire more staff and and pound the street for those details!
For corporate media, it's not so much about competition or getting the truth, it's about profits...filling the airtime as cheaply as possible.
Notice that for more nationally prominent stories, the media puts for a LOT more effort. Put another way, the police PR flack should be only ONE source but not the ONLY source! Replies:
