You obviously havent followed her much... she's a light complected black woman, and just like Obama could and many other blacks who speak with only a barely detectable black accent, she's very capable of breaking into black slang like she was in the 'hood.
Spanish public anchors and pundits can do the same thing...they speak Flawless English until the come to a Latino noun, and without a pause, they speed up and roll their R's, so fast we native European descndants can't understand the Hispanic accent.
Anybody who's ever been in radio or TV and undergone speech coaching knows this, and can detect that she's hardly a 'valley girl', unless you know something I don't know, that there might be black neighborhoods in the 'valley." I've only been in upscale Orange County where my kid lived doing his post-doc at Irvine.
Reminds me when I had to work with one of my reporters to get the Garden CIty accent and the sound like she reading the news like a 5th grader's turn having to read the textbook outloud.
The fun part is watching black anchors on the networks, break into subtle eubonics when they interview other blacks on the air. They get to horsing around and they completely forget all that voice coaching they got to make it to the network!
Valley accent? Ha. You should hear the air staff with their Southern accents where I live! They all sound straight outta the Georgia woods! I heard Donald Trump sound exactly like a New York Italian mafioso just afew hours ago! I can just hear little Barron say, "Daddy why do you talk so funny?"
Surely you've been out of more places besides the Valley and Wyandotte County!
