GUIDELINES

- the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
- anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
- adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
- the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
- the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors

everything is my fault. . . I'll take the blame

"Vervain was gone when I woke up this morning. She wanted to go to the beach; I- I didn't think anything of it." Vervain had told her the evening before of her plans to go to the beach. Daire had warned the girl against going alone, but her daughter had finally divulged that she was waiting to meet Nephilim. She wouldn't be alone long, if at all. Daire had known better than to let that reassure her, but... she could see in her daughter's eyes what the girl wouldn't say. Young love was blossoming in her heart, and, more than anything, Daire wanted it for her.

Nephilim was a decent boy. She'd seen him with Castillon in passing before. Daire only knew what other details of him Vervain had told her. Daire had even seen them speaking alone once. She suspected but said nothing and hadn't raised any questions when Vervain began to be more private about her thoughts. But. . . even with Vervain thinking Nephilim would be there soon, she surely knew better than to go alone. Right? When the older mare had woken late that morning and found Vervain gone from their copse, hadn't she merely shaken her head and chuckled at the girl's eagerness?

"I'm telling you, Zevulun. . ." The brindled black looked steadily upon her pale mate, whom she'd come to for answers, for help. Panic was beginning to show in her eyes, edge into her words. "Something's wrong. She should have been back by now." Daire's brown eyes swept back out over the expanse of the Prairie, which was darkening in the late afternoon. She prayed that she was wrong and somehow her daughter had simply been delayed. Perhaps one of the younger children could have roped her into a game, or another mare could have kept her in conversation a bit too long.
