I'm not sure that's true, when you say the 'current mess in Cali..is..democrat rule.
Right after I got out of highschool it was 1964. If I remember right the Watts race riots out there in LA were 65. Wasn't Reagan governor of Cali at that time? Not sure but a lot of bad things happened in those years. We had race riots all over the country. Vietnam was bogging us down. My gen was overseas. Things sucked until abt 73. Nixon was president. 68 was the year of assassinations and the Tet Offensive.
I won't disagree that LBJ was no help throwing money at his "Great Society" to and it turned the poor in America into welfare recipients and everyone was in 'programs.' That was the new word and yes it was a progressive/Democrat word.
I'm just a bit older than you guys, I think...just sayin 60s started out nicely except for the black people. But they did get their legal rights however not without a lot of kicking and screaming in the South.

Wondering if maybe some of you weren't old enough to know what we've been thru and you didn't start paying attention quite yet. I didn't either about what my WWII parents had gone thru until I got out of school too.
The nice thing about having been around for 3/4's of a Century, you start looking at life in a more historical context...you start focusing not on EVENTS, but rather on Trends. And our culture's been losing altitute starting well before 1970!
Tom Brokaw wrote his book "The Greatest Generation". Yes they lived through the Depression and saved the world in WWII, but I never thought our parents were the Greatest Generation. THey came home after growing up with nothing, and got very materialistic. My experience was that they didn't raise us boomers. We were latchkey kids. By and large, I dont' think we boomers did much for our kids either. But our offspring's generation seem to be taking theirs much more seriously and that's good so long as we don't get blown up in a war over Europe or lose our democracy.
Maybe all the dregs of society are in Oakland. But its not about politics, I'm sure. Its about culture and I haven't heard anything good from the elite Republicans for ten years. I don't blame TRump for Covid, just for the covid DEATHS. That guy's totally incompetent and we dont have to learn that twice. Replies:
