Ridge

Tyr had seen Asphara the day she had stood in the surf, her eyes cast upon the horizon, and her gaze filled with longing. He did not know what pulled at her heart so strongly, but the giant stallion did not leave the shadows of the jungle to find out. Instead, he had turned away, letting the red mare make her own choice. How could he try to sway her when he too felt such longing at times? Only it was a different direction that he looked.


Days had passed, and the golden stallion had not put much thought into it again. Asphara’s scent had not grown any duller in the Ridge, so he had assumed she stayed. It was the first scream of Rose that brought his attention to them now. Standing further inland, tucked in the thick undergrowth of the forest, the Atlantis King grazed on the vegetation. He immediately stopped, his head swinging around to the direction it had come from, and his ears perked forward. Silence followed, and he wondered if he should go and investigate. Maybe Asphara had decided to leave after all?


When another call came and it was the red mother this time, Tyr finally moved from his place of peace to go and see what was happening. When he found the pair on the cliffs, he was swamped with confusion at first, until the scent of Rose filled his nose. He had known she was pregnant because of her scent change over the last few seasons, but he hadn’t expected the coppery tang of blood to be on her now with no child in sight. It left the golden stallion plenty to speculate on what happened. Letting out a deep, rumbling nicker, he eased closer to the huddled little family to try and offer some sort of comfort.
