Rules

• The Lagoon is where homeless stallions come to live as a brotherhood. Mares may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Soldiers keep mainly to fighting, Thieves keep mainly to raiding, and Associates may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Marauder or Boss for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Boss maintains order within the Lagoon and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Lagoon works on the Rules page.

• Upon election, the Boss can issue a rule for members to follow during their tenure. It is up to leadership to enforce.

Vervain listened to the man with growing dread. The emotion leaked ice into her veins, but at least he wasn’t getting any closer. Relaxing only slightly with that in mind, her eyes followed his back out to the swamp beyond the twisted barrier that closed them in. She had never heard of alligators before, but her mind swiftly moved past the mentioned threat as the paint continued to speak.

The Lagoon? Fates, was that where they were? The girl vaguely remembered her father mentioning the place. Damn it all, why hadn’t she been paying attention? All she could remember was that stallions roamed freely here . . . and that the Lagoon was far from home. She didn’t know much about the Commons either, but the fact that more stallions lurked outside its borders gave her great pause.

The dark shape of her ears twisted back against her poll, revealing some of the doubt and fearfulness that stymied her drive to leave. Her brown eyes remained on the trees, not noticing when his eyes refocused on her. She only vaguely heard his grunts and last murmured words. Her gaze remained focused on the swamp and the threats that lurked beyond. There were many miles between this small island and the Prairie and, with them, many more opportunities for harm to come to her. Vervain let her gaze creep back to her captor.

"..What are 'alligators'?"

Vervain
