It was common belief that the lagoon stallions only truly liked the meek and obedient. Hiyori had thought by being a nuisance, it would annoy this painted stallion enough that he would go find some other prey to harass. Either he was different from the others, or Hiyori’s limited knowledge had been wrong. The father of her child was nothing like this animal. Especially as he slammed into her, his body-check jarring Hiyori’s senses, but did not bring her to submission.


With a squeal, ears pinned into the tangling mess of her thick mane, Hiyori wheeled around in hopes of slamming her strong hip into him. She was not stockier than him, but she was a little taller, and the mare hoped it was enough to give the stallion some pause before she started lashing out with her hind legs. Hiyori didn’t offer a reply to his attempt at a deal. Only the force of two hind hooves flying at him with as much force as she could muster. As close as they were already, she didn’t expect any sort of devastating hit, unless she managed to catch one of his legs.


And then it happened.


Hiyori’s blue eyes caught sight of her palomino painted daughter standing along the tree line. Her eyes were wide with fear, and shock vividly plastered across her white face. The mother quickly broke away from the stallion, racing across the open expanse between them, until she reached Izumi. A whuffle escaped Hiyori despite how hard her flanks heaved with all the effort she had given fighting with the lagoon stallion. Circling the little filly, Hiyori placed herself as a blockade, facing the stallion with ears pinned and lips pulling back to show her blunt teeth. A promise that she would come at him with a whole new fury, now that she was protecting her daughter and not just herself.
