The last few years had been mostly kind to Sidra. Well… mostly. Word of her mother’s passing had come from her father nearly four years ago now, when her sister Lumalee had been born. Sidra had grieved and been given the space to grieve, but at the end of her crying she did not feel as if she had found any closure. Her relationship with her mother had been strained, though never awful, and she never felt like they connected quite the way she wished they could.
Maybe she should be spending more time in the Prairie, then, with Lumalee while her young sister was still on Luthien. But, that would mean leaving Bacardi and the family she found here which, even though it was certainly possible… it just wasn’t something she found herself capable of doing. There was a certain peace here within the Forest she had come to cherish. The Prairie now seemed too wide and vulnerable since she’d grown used to the comforts of the towering trees.
Bacardi’s cry pulled her from her thoughts and the freckled mare lifted her muzzle from where she’d been grazing on some late autumn grasses, immediately singing a soft whinny back to him. She did not wait, but turned and began walking in his direction, a happy smile coming across her lips as soon as she caught sight of the handsome painted stallion.
But then, behind him, she saw a figure wobble and collapse. “Oh, Bacardi!” She gasped and gestured with her dark muzzle out behind him where the young thing had fallen. Picking up her steps she rushed forward so she could be by Bacardi’s side as they went to look over the young foal. “She’s far too young to be on her own,” Sidra chided with worry, frowning briefly as she failed to recognize the filly from any of last spring’s Forest foals or even those born in the Prairie.
Sidra could not see any noticeable wounds, but the child looked as if they were in need of a full belly, fresh water, and a safe place to get some decent sleep.
