Thoughts (Edit) Posted on July 13, 2024 at 09:05:52 PM by Drow
Been dealing with a lot IRL which is partially why I haven't really been an active member, but I do have thoughts on territories since that's another reason I haven't been very active, too. It seems odd to me that there are really only 2 ways to get a territory and I think it's a really restrictive system for players in general at its core :(
Do you think the way away protection currently works is fair? Are there any changes you would like to see?
No, I don't think it's fair and I would like to see it changed for the aforementioned reasons.
Which (if any) of the above solutions seem the most fair to you? Or do you have your own idea?
Personally, I think it should be up to admin & player discretion. If a player has been going on away constantly to the point that no one can initiate a challenge on their territory, then the staff team needs to be notified and they need to step in. It doesn't need to be some dramatic thing, either, just a gentle nudge toward the player in question that their behavior might be hindering other people's enjoyment of the game. I think this should be done regardless of what the rule change is, as some people don't realize that there is a problem unless it's pointed out.
Otherwise, I can't say I particularly like any of the choices provided, but given a lack of an answer on my end, I think it should be a player can only be away for x amount of days/weeks and they have to return and be active for x amount of days/weeks before they can go on away again. Though, I think trying to keep track of days/weeks used/unused would require some effort from the staff team and I do wonder if that's something they even want to do, so keeping it a baseline of like, a month, would probably be fairest.
Edit: Adding more territories and restricting players to 1 territory sounds like a good solution to me. There's no point in adding more territories if players can have more than one, as that won't stop those players from taking those territories. It could be neat to add a new player only territory and make it a revolving door situation (leader gets x amount of time the territory to build it up, but once that time is up the land doesn't support them anymore so they have to move) - which actually could be interesting for territory leader interactions!
