Trailing her was easy, considering she wasn't even pretending to hide as she fled from me. I had spotted her across the commons and recognized the distinctive white markings against the blood red of her body and found myself intrigued enough to approach. I had barely been a boy when she'd lived in the Lagoon, but as a cast out from my own family, I had spied on hers for hours until her bastard of a mate helped them all escape.

Seeing her again now that I was old enough to fix that little discrepancy sure felt like fate, and I wasted no time in rushing toward her as she peeled away from the younger mare. In truth, I would have liked to have both of them, but beggars couldn't be choosers and who knows... with my brothers patrolling the Commons she might end up there after all anyway.

"Did you like your little vacation?" I growled as she crossed into the Lagoon and drew to a halt, her eyes deliciously wide with fear. We'd stopped to speak ever so briefly when I'd caught up to her, and while I was outwardly composed, I still felt a bit weak in the knees internally. Although I would hardly admit such a thing to the little beauty I'd dragged home, she had been my first, and now that I knew what I had missed out on last season, I doubted that she would be my last.

My nostrils flared as I moved closer to her, drinking in the scent of her, saturated with worry for her daughter and perhaps even of me. I prowled close, pushing into her space in an attempt to touch her again, just to see what she would do now that we were here. "I'll have to keep you close," I murmur, the words a threat. "Wouldn't want you to go missing again."
