i dream in phosphorescence

The moment Helios' burnt umber eyes rested upon the grulla dripping water there on the beach he made to turn and join her. As he cascaded down the hill, the stallion's mind raced, ignoring the strain hot in his legs to keep upright in the shifting sand. It had been well over a year since the last of their moments. Yet Helios found himself easily drawing those precious seconds to his mind's eye, could remember the glitter of twilight in her eyes and the cool brush of air from her lips as she spoke.

"Avery," he breathed, breath shuddering as the distance between them closed. Salt stung the tender skin of ashen nostrils as the stallion came to a stop before the mare; he scented the air carefully -- a relic of their past. Ocean water dominated her scent, but, strangely, Helios noticed only faint scents of Salem. "Avery.." Words failed him for a moment. He'd been so concerned for the girl when Starlight and Solaire had appeared without her and had spent a long time waiting for her at their meeting places. She'd never appeared.

"I- I'm so glad to see you," Helios told her, heart plain as day on his proverbial sleeve.
