take a sad song,
& make it better
There is always movement in the Commons, she’s noticed. Always someone skulking around the periphery, just waiting for a chance to strike. The beast that stalks her now is simply too large to
not notice. He towers over the rest of the islands, much like her golden lover once had. Where that accursed man had run off to now, she did not know, but it did not matter. He seemed much like her papa: all too willing to uproot his life at a moment’s notice and move on, leaving everyone else behind.
When it is indeed the giant shadow that answers her call, Cat wants to say that she is surprised, but she is not. She can feel the heavy weight of his gaze on her and as she shifts to face him, she suddenly doubts anyone else will approach. The beast is massive and danger hovers in the air around him, despite the niceties he offers for her hooked ears. She is not sure where the danger comes from - he has composed himself well so far - and so she supposes that it stems from the threat any stallion imposes on a mare by their mere presence in fall and forces herself to set the immediate unease to the side.
She had her own other worries, to be certain, but she was determined not to show them to anyone else. If there was one thing her mother had taught her over the years, it was that once someone knew what your heart wanted, they were likely to wield it against you. Better to let herself remain an enigma than to explain the chaos that often tumbled around her head.
"I suppose the same thing as any other pretty mare this time of year, strangerextraño." She says smoothly, tipping her pale face so that she could look up at him properly from beneath a drape of forelock.
"What better season than this, no? HombresMen like you assume they will get lucky, and señorasladies like me let them believe it."
A taunt smile passed across her lips and she made a show of letting her gaze rake over his figure slowly, the same way she was absolutely certain - despite lacking any such proof - that he had done to her.
"I could ask you the same," she chuckled, flicking the strands of her tail so that they stung the sides of her trim belly,
"but that would be a waste of breath, no? I know, you know." She made the equivalent of a shrug and then fixed him with that piercing gaze again, trying to ignore the roiling mass of anxiety in her belly.
"So instead tell me something I cannot guess."
Her lips pursed for a moment, mischief sparkling in her eyes.
"Por favorPlease."
