Life had gone on at a rampant pace since the last time the Dunes' leader had last laid eyes on Nyimara: the queen of the Desert. It had been nearly two years since they first spoke and agreed on allying together, but many things had happened since that conversation.
Mares of his had been stolen. He had gained an enemy out of a Lagoon bachelor for protecting someone on his land. Children had been born and then lost, as had a friend. Helios remembered fuzzy snippets of a conversation he'd had with Asmodeus nearly a year prior where the chimera had said the Dunes was his. This had caused the Arabian to surmise that something had happened to the silver-tressed queen.
Yet now, she called for him from across the sands. The stallion cocked his head at the speck of a mare from across a fair distance. Lifting his muzzle into the air, the faintest trace of her scent made it to his nares as a confirmation. Curiosity and duty alike encouraged the stallion to bugle a response. He struck out across the land to meet her, the shape of him lost among the similarly-colored landscape as the distance closed.
"Nyimara," the stallion said warmly, welcoming that sight of her and the vivacity of her health. He had worried about the silver bay after all. As beautiful as she was, the copper-imbued male would not have hesitated to let his eyes wander over her form if she had been his own mare this season. However, she was not, and, base impulses aside, Helios knew full well their visits had always been a political matter. "It's been too long."
