give me darkness when I'm dreaming;

He succeeds in driving Lucifer from the Ridge, but it has cost him. Arroyo slips through the trees - a sliver of light in the shadows. Bruises bloom beneath along his back and chest. His forelegs feel stiff and tender when he moves, but nothing is broken. He has work to do here, searching the jungle for anyone who remains, ensuring the Ridge is safe before he goes to the Prairie to retrieve his family. It will be easier for him to slip out of harm's way alone should Lucifier or one of his allies retaliate.

He has learned that Atlantis is ever-changing. The ocean shapes the island, the vines and trees envelope familiar paths, and leadership comes and goes like the rain. Arroyo is both relieved and surprised at himself for feeling relieved to be back again.

Even more surprising is the voice of his friend calling his name. Arroyo's head snaps to attention, ears turning to catch the sound through the ancient trees before he calls in return. He breaks into a long trot despite his sore legs. When the black and white form of Ignacio comes into view, Arroyo calls again, rearing part way and tossing his head playfully, beckoning his friend to approach.

"Ignacio, it is so good to see you again," he says. He needs a friend now more than ever. "What have I missed?" he asks with a light-hearted chuckle.
