I know I told you that I moved from rip and read radio copy and went upstairs when KSN TV spun off FM107..They invited me and FM107 had to find em a new morning reader. I really never looked back because I was looking forward to a new career. I had vastly more fun and made more money in TV for years, but even in affiliate TV, it's really still just a job. News Director is as high as you can go if you're not an anchor. And their turnover is horrible!
And even as a network anchor like Brian Williams...ya say one wrong thing and you get bounced out by the braintrust on the top floor at 30 Rock. And ya get replaced by a young pretty face half your age. Yeah, she's doin good. The ones who did make it all the way are honored on the internet. The ones who didn't, ya have to do some serious looking...
Broadcasting was fun--great memories, but my experience is only abt 5 percent make it to the top and stay there, usually network level and they have to sacrifice their families' lives to do it by moving markets.
I just wasn't willing to do it and I was lucky becasue I found other skills outside the business to protect my income.
Yet Im listening to you who ended up working out of his house on Mission road all those years. Not saying thats a bad decision, but I am suggesting you have no room to lecture me when I advise other creatives to plan ahead because radio as an industry won't likely meet their needs.
Get over yourself, Jim. Jesus, was there something poisonous in the water supply for you guys? I don't bash guys who stayed in, but I continue to say in here, not get too comfy in an industry that the kids may outlive! Replies:
