A mother's love is saying 'I told you so'

She had taken her eye off the ball and now was confronted with this stranger who's motives were unknown.

Sensing the colts curiosity along with his lack of fear - or maybe it was lack of self preservation, who knew - she snapped her teeth at him as he went to walk past her, her demand clear as she shook her head and stepped in front of him.

With a huff the colt stepped back, listening to his mothers warning for a change, the snake bite on his lower leg temporarily forgotten about. Sulking at not being able to meet the new stallion, a comical sight for sure considering he was only 3 inches shorter than his mother.
He didn't understand his mother's concern, this male seemed friendly. Pricking his ears forward he decided his mother was simply over reacting. Deciding to go say hello he had only taken a single step forward when the mare swung her hind end in his direction, knocking into his shoulder and sending the colt stumbling sideways.

Annoyed and embarrassed at being disciplined in front of someone who could be a new friend he lightly nipped his mother's rump, something he swiftly regretted when she placed a firm correction kick to his chest.
Getting the message this time he huffed and stepped back, sulking like a petulant child.

Adjusting her posture some more, ears pinned back in relation to her pig headed son she kept her focus on the stranger, a differicult talk when her son had shown his frustration and nipped her! Shd wanted nothing more than to lecture him about the dangers of strangers....again! But now wasn't the time or place.

He's fine, just a disagreement with a snake.

Her words were sharp, indicating towards her frustration with the colts antics as the weariness at this stranger presence showed in her eyes. Even though her foal was weaned, nearly as big as her and they were alone, a mother's job was never finished and she would protect him with her life if it came to it.

Hopefully it wouldn't come to that though as she knew she stood no chance against this stallion should she have to fight. She wasn't only physically smaller than him she was also exhausted, what with travelling for a few months and keeping her boisterous colt in check on her own.
