Standing on the banks of her home, Yaga looked deep into the dense forest. Her bright eyes scanned every limb she could differentiate for a reason to stay. Her body was not ready to leave, but with a small herd, and very little patience for others to waltz into her home, she was running out of options. She needed numbers, even if they were just pretty to look at toys on a shelf or useful bodies against much larger things. She never expected to think this way, but Yaga was far from her emotions on the kinder scale and would do far better off as seeing others for what they were… chips in a poker game.
Huffing out a deep breath that left her nostrils flaring as a snort to sound, the mare felt her teeth grind together as nothing spoke against her leaving her territory. She guessed it meant she needed to go, but after the last few new horses she met… Yaga was feeling far from content with the idea of entertaining another. All was well that ended well however and she found herself turning, her feathered legs leaving the dry sands of the beach and walking straight into the ocean. Sometimes she wondered what it would be like to walk straight down to the bottom, but with her body always managing to float in a way, Yaga knew there was no chance to actually sink without being forced under.
Swimming was easy, or at least she felt that way. Her hooves touched the Crossing fairly well and easily as her body pulled from the cool waves with a shake of her frame following. She could hear the water slapping against the ground, but the tell tale sign of something new did not bother her. Licking her dark lips, the white diamond faced mare looked about herself before her hooves continued on. She knew where she needed to go, even if she was not all that willing to head in that direction.
Time passed and her hooves made a steady thump-thump-th-thump sound upon the dry spring soil. Her ears picked up the sound of birds flying overhead and singing their spring songs. Tall grasses brushed against her knees and others against her stomach. She could scent the fresher growing foliage and it brought a smile to her face, warming her very straight to the point mind. Steady changes were good, but the ones she had been flung into since her start in the Forest this season were grueling. Next time, she figured she would let a lagoon escapee drown before facing that many smelly men.
Rounding a bend of trees and going up a ways, Yaga was about to bend down and take a bite to eat when her eyes landed on something different. Up ahead, far enough away to not fully be in her line of sight, Yaga saw brown. Her head tilted to the side, confused on why a brown spot would be so discernible against the green of the commons. It wasn't much farther up that her pace halted, her eyes taking in the full brown spot to realize it was another horse. As her bright gaze took in the horse, Yaga realized it was a lone mare. Tilting her head the other way, the grey shire cross felt something stir in the pit of her gut, a feeling she never once felt before.
Moving closer now, this time with a whicker leaving her lips, Yaga let her presence be known as she got closer and closer, realizing another cute thing about this mare… Wait… Yaga thought she was cute? Shaking her head at that, yaga sucked in a deep breath to try and chase that feeling away, not used to having that ideation about the same gender. It caused her to be confused and almost frustrated, but Yaga locked the anger away as she faced the new creature with space between them, but her intent? Most likely was noticeable.
Curly hair, soft browns… petite. Those are what captured all of Yaga’s attention. It stirred that feeling again, but she hid it well as a smile curled her lips, an honest smile at that. “Why is a gorgeous lady like you all alone in the commons?” She spoke, her cheeks heating under her dark fur. This was not her normal routine, but something spurred her on as she dipped her head, her eyes slowly roaming the mare in appreciation instead of bored inventory. “My name is Baba Yaga… but you can call me Yaga.”
