GUIDELINES
common sense, really
i. the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
ii. anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
iii. adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
iv. the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
v. the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
give me moonlight when I'm leaving;

There is no land in the entirety of the world that could hold him steady the way his family does. The surge of his heart when Deirdre answers his call floods him with relief. For the first time in days, he feels like he can breathe.

He knows he is lucky - lucky that his love has stood by him in his wanderings and in his battles. Lucky to know that even if he had failed in securing them a home, she would still be there - that they could be anywhere and still have each other.

But, he knows he worries her. He knows his new wounds will not help her worry.

Ain presses against him, and he curls his neck around hers. Naoise bumps this nose to Arroyo's shoulder.

"Did you win?" his daughter asks, pulling away.

Arroyo huffs a laugh. "The Ridge is our new home," he tells her, reaching to ruffle her forelock.

He searches for Deirdre's eyes then, not knowing what he'll find there, but hoping for approval.

"But, let's stay another night in the Prairie." He must thank Zevulun for his hospitality and friendship before they leave again. He does not know how many years his friend has left, or when he'll be able to come back.

They walk inland together through the tall grasses. Birds flit and chatter all around them, and the wind carries the sea scent to mingle in their hair.

Eventually,Arroyo says, "The Harbor has become home to new families. They seem nice enough, and we won't be far. Perhaps, in time, we can meet them."

He would have preferred the Harbor, in all honesty, but he knew the consequences of leaving a land vacant. He would not uproot a family just because he preferred one place over another. Besides, the Ridge had sheltered his family before, back when Ain was just a small thing. It too is a special place.

His heart squeezes as he looks at his daughter now. Grown.

"The former keeper of the Ridge is a bad man," He looks to each of them. "We must all be very cautious and aware at our surroundings in the days to come. I am afraid Lucifer has not gone far." His children are old enough to hear these things, but it hurts him to trouble them. "We should keep to the Ridge for a while until we see how the dust settles."
