Gray (Smoky Black)Fell x Corvette
I can't promise anything, the calico stallion hedged and the gray girl recognized the adult-speak for what it was. A denial, only softened so that she wouldn't feel bad about it. She sucked in a sigh but nodded, accepting the response. It was a weird thing to ask of a stranger, after all. She didn't even know if her momma knew about her other siblings. She spoke of them so rarely, only mentioning Lakota with any kind of regularity, but Corvair had to try.
To her surprise, Nicodemus offered a different option that had her immediately brightening again and she turned her hopeful gaze back to him, her eagerness written on her face. "Really? Oh, that would be wonderful!" Anything, really, to bring Corvette back to life.
Her chest was filled once more with the brightness of hope, but it dimmed slightly as he changed topics back to her father. Pain threaded its way onto her expression and her brow furrowed for a moment, considering her next words. The rumors had reached them of Fell's new location, of course, but the reaction in the Bay had been mixed. Half of them - like Corvette - seemed to not believe it, while others seemed to take the news as an indication to move on.
Corvair herself believed it to be true, but she also believed that Fell would come back to them. Because of course, he would. The Bay was home and his whole family was waiting for him.
Chewing her cheek for a moment, Corvair considered her next words carefully before sharing them, her voice more subdued. "We heard that he had some sort of accident in the Badlands, with, um, Raegar, I think?" She had never met the overo herself, but he was a frequent "visitor" to the Bay and was something between friend and foe. Corvair wasn't sure exactly how that worked, but he had never bothered her or her mother. "We thought he was going to come home but, um, it's been a while and I'm not so sure anymore."
The admission made her heart ache with a loneliness she wasn't used to. Corvair adored her father, but there was a growing part of her that felt a little betrayed by his absence. "Mom doesn't really want me to go look for him so we've just been waiting to see if he comes back. My half-brother is taking care of the Bay now."
