Canis drank long and deep from the spring. His eyes closed as the liquid filled his mouth and throat. The water was cool despite the warmth of summer, and the stallion relished its chill. Once sated, he turned from the running water and turned to set his gaze along the hillside. Residents doted the landscape, his own mares and children among them.

Like a small stone plinking into a pond, Canis' stomach dropped a little when he reminded himself that there were grandchildren now. He shook his head, pale lips peeling back as he barked a laugh at himself. His mother must have had a similar reaction when he'd first told her that he had children now. Had that really been two years ago? It felt both long ago and like yesterday all at once. The silver grullo chose a more indirect path down the hillside. He didn't aim himself toward one mare or another, but all too happily would he join their company if they sought him out.

Canis had some thoughts he was still figuring out, namely to do with his mother. She'd come to visit, and surprisingly Sinaet had brought both of her children by Raegar. He wasn't sure what to make of their appearance though he'd been happy to see and meet his younger siblings. Sinaet had been cagey about the reason she'd come and had promised to tell him more of what had happened, but she hadn't made good on it yet. He prayed to whatever forces there were in their world that Raegar was alive and that his dam would be able to return to his side.

Soft rustling close by caught the stallion's attention, and his steps slowed to a stop as Canis turned to see who it was.
