The silver grullo spent every step they took together attending to her every need. It heartened his hopes for her as the strength seemed to return to her limbs as they went along. When the bay strode forward to drink from the small pool, Canis raised his head and slung his gaze outward to the different clusters and stands of trees around them. He was still watching for any sign of the local predators when she spoke again.
His ears, mismatched white and grullo grey, pricked toward the stranger as she told her tale. Hellfyre she called herself, lost at sea. The stallion nodded, unsurprised. There were larger swells and stronger currents than you might expect in the waters around the islands. Canis watched her newfound strength begin to wilt, tail twitching once and then twice as he nodded once.
"I think a long rest would go a long way, Hellfyre, if you don't mind my saying so. A swim like the one you described can really do you harm." Glancing back to the saplings closest to them, Canis focused on a flicker of movement. He would have rolled his eyes at the cardinal had he been alone. Instead, the white-legged stallion dismisses the bird as though it were a wisp of wind. The stallion gestures toward the vicinity around the pool. "Stay. Rest, please. You'll be safe here and close to the water."
