No one is coming to save you,
Get up.
At first, the pretty little mare continued her charade of pretending to not be interested in what the tobiano had to say, but he remained steadfast and undeterred. He had learned a great deal when it came to reading the emotions of the mares around him. Doing so was a bit of a necessity when you preferred the company he did. Missing a shift in Nyimara's temper, or in Marceline's patience was a surefire way to garner new marks on his hide. And from what he had learned, this mare's presence in the Commons, combined with her willingness (however much she feigned otherwise) to listen to him, implied that she was here on purpose, even if she didn't understand her own purpose yet.
Even her insolent eye roll did not flare his temper. If she didn't want his offer, then Asmdoeus had no problem moving on. He was not nearly as possessive as the rest of his family and would not mind if she meandered on without him. Better that than her coming to the Shore with no fire of her own.
At her confirmation that he wasn't wasting her time and then her subsequent closing of the distance between them, Asmodeus' neutral ears flicked forward in wary interest. "Asmodeus," he answered, his ears tipped forward and gaze fixated on her face. When her question was offered, however, a genuinely approving grin spread across his face. A smart question to ask, and one that reaffirmed that he had made the right decision to approach the prickly-looking mare.
"You would be surprised at how rare a find that is," he murmured with a chuckle. He paused for a moment, considering his next words carefully. He didn't consider his plans truly secretive, considering he planned to approach the rest of Atlantis within the week to state his intentions, but he also didn't know this mare. And if he were particularly honest, some of his intentions were not necessarily chivalrous in nature.
""I aim to become King of Atlantis," he stated flatly, closely watching her reaction. "And I am likely to make both friends and enemies along the way. I need a herd that can handle themselves no matter what comes. Perhaps even mares cunning and strong enough to be willing to go into other herds but remain loyal - at least in part - to me for the opportunity I provided." The tobiano's tail flicked at his side. "There are not many herds that will allow you to come and go as you please freely. To take whatever suitors you desire. Make friends. Make enemies. Stay away for weeks at a time, and to still come home and know that they are protected under my umbrella."
He blew out a breath. "And should your services never be required in that fashion, then I only hope to encourage more mares to be like the greats of these islands. The sort that put their mark across the land. Who gets whispered about at night, whether they become heroes or villains. To have my name tied in connection to such mares." Stallions too, but he cared less about that, if he were honest. "I want to shape the history of the islands, Curse. That is all."
