RIP John Galt Posted on April 27, 2025 at 14:45:33 by Dewey, Cheatum, and Howe
A recent lawsuit highlights a less publicized firefighter death in Chicago.
John Galt, a seventeen year veteran of the Chicago Fire Department tragically passed away this year. Named in the lawsuit, The City of Chicago, Former Mayor Lori Lightfoot, Mayor Brandon Johnson, and Fire Commissioner Annette Nance-Holt.
Details of the death reveal an alarming trend of unsafe work conditions under the current commissioner resulting in seven deaths. Firefighter Galt was found deceased in the kitchen by Lieutenant Fugazzi. His head had apparently been crushed by the refrigerator door. Fugazzi said he had come downstairs and found Galt after his afternoon nap. "We had that thick cut applewood smoked bacon for breakfast, so I was hankering for a BLT, when I saw him in a pool of blood." Speaking about the unsafe conditions was senior firefighter Dumbrowski. "That refrigerator door is always open. It is almost reflex that someone slams it shut. Sadly, someone did not notice John's head. Hard to do, it's so big."
Fugazzi added, "Truly tragic. No one knew how long the door was left open, but all the condiments were not cold to the touch. Out of an abundance of caution, we threw them out. That is going to hurt the food kitty."
A representative of Galt's family discussed his love for firefighting and his frustration with the current commissioner. John could not find a job during the recession and was lucky he took the firefighter exam and got called. It was a blessing. John was sort of a know-it-all, but rest assured, no deaths would have occured had he been appointed commissioner. The family requested a private service for close friends and family. We do not want the disgraceful politicians showing up and showing their fake grief for publicity.
The law firm representing the Galt family cited other hazards in the firehouse like high sodium diets and untied showlaces that show a callous disregard for firefighter safety. Asked about firefighters having personal responsibility, the law firm stated that the seven deaths show a lack of responsibility by the defendents.
