Re(3): another talker back

Oh I did do something new, got out and never looked back!

And I was so surprised how fat my retirement account was after broadcasting.

We're living off my retirement income which I did get some in TV but not radio back in the 1970s. Well In American Forces Radio for a couple years 1969-71, I guess I should say they put me thru school and gave me a no-down- payment mortgage on my first house, so those were nice benefits.

Just like the radio clock, rinse and repeat. Like 8 track tapes, on a loop.

The dumb part is that radio is on a standard clock changing at the top of the hour, like ratings. TV too. But the big money came when I got out of the business. And the best part was when ya wanted to change jobs to get ahead, ya didn't have to move to another market which was always costly if you were a homeowner. And instead of a half dozen companies to work for, there were hundreds, thousands all over town. Didnt' have to fuck with airchecks, formats, market sizes, and big conglomerates in lots of markets.

Yet when people go to work, they don't start and stop listening at the top of the hour, that's when they start and stop WORK but they're not in the building yet.

So they get outta their cars at :45 or :50 and when they go home, they dont' get into their cars until :10 or :15.

And kids often have even different times when the bells ring when their arses are supposed to be in a classroom seat, except for the bussed kids who dont even listen at all.

And drive times are varying lengths which can be estimated depending on the city. Does everyone stream the OTA program on their cellphones? Is that rated?

BTW, why always the insults? Is KC the highest you ever got in the bidness? And did ya have to go to bed early and miss social evenings so you could get up at ungodly o'clock in the morning where the money was? And it was hard to walk away from the bidness, because you didn't really learn a lot of skills that transferred over to many other jobs--specially if you didn't have a sellable degree. That was a handicap in the military too, not much call in civilian life for bayonet fighters.

Believe me, I did try something new! Better than finishing my career at W*O*L*D! What about you or don't ya really have much to say about a radio career except all the free concert tickets ya got? That was a good benefit!
