Helios finished scanning the golden landscape with a slow exhalation. He wouldn't say it aloud, but he feared the chance that they would spy Lucifer on the horizon. It clouded his mind, distracting the Arabian until he turned his attention back to the silver bay queen. She was smiling when his umber eyes landed fully upon her, peering up at the stallion through her pale lashes.

"Do not fret over that now," Nyimara said. "Let’s get you and your herd settled before I go running off to tear a few new holes in the bastard.”

For the breadth of two heartbeats, Helios was warmed by the bay's words. They had not been what might be called 'close allies' before, but the stallion had supported her and therefore the Desert by extension in a bid to establish a monarchy on Salem. It was possible that Nyimara was only taking them in to repay that debt, but some remaining piece of Helios that was naive and romantic yet wondered what it might be like to have a partner who was willing to fight with him.. for him.

Then, before the wave of irrational panic can stupefy him into saying something at the thought of her facing off against a beast like Lucifer, the Desert Queen surprised him further by offering a position: Second. He knew that, ideally, the position would already be filled by someone she trusted, someone like Asmodeus.. What had happened to him? Helios did not think on the half-formed question in the back of his mind. Instead he nodded, curtly. "It would be my honor." The stallion cannot help the undertone of surprise at the offer, but he does not expound upon it.

When Nyimara started forward again, Helios dared and reached to touch the queen upon her shoulder, urging her to stop. "Nyimara, I would urge you to be careful, if you really are intending to approach him." He couldn't outright tell her not to go at all-- not as her ally before and not as her newly-appointed Second now, but he found that he was unwilling to simply say nothing.
